Disclaimer
Navigatek Meteo is a decision-support tool. It does not replace the official forecasts and warnings of Environment and Climate Change Canada or of your country's weather service. The decision to go out on the water, and safety on board, remain the skipper's.
What we keep
When you sign in with Google, we receive and keep:
- your Google account identifier (a number, specific to this service);
- your email address and your name;
- the date of your first and last visit, and the number of visits;
- the body of water you chose;
- each version of the Terms of Use you accepted, with the date, the language of the screen and where it came from (website or app).
Nothing else: no password, no contacts, no location. We only ask Google for your name and your address.
Why
To give you access to the service you ask for by signing in, and to know who uses it. This information is never sold, rented or used for advertising.
Cookies
Two cookies: one keeps your session open, the other remembers the language you chose. No advertising or analytics cookies.
Audience measurement
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics: a small script measures page views, country, type of device and browser, and the page you came from. It sets no cookie, does not follow you from site to site and is not used to identify you; we only see totals.
Who else sees data pass through
- Google: the sign-in, and the page's fonts (your browser downloads them from Google, which therefore sees your IP address);
- Cloudflare: carries the traffic to the server and sees your IP address;
- the server itself, which keeps technical operating logs for a limited time.
These companies may process this data in a country other than yours. The weather sources (Environment Canada, MET Norway, Open-Meteo) receive no information about you: the server queries them, not your device.
Bodies of water and map
If you create a body of water, its name and centre are visible to other users, who can choose it in turn; your name is not attached to it in their eyes. If you delete your account, the bodies of water you created remain available to others, with no link to you.
The geographic map comes from OpenStreetMap: your browser downloads its images, so OpenStreetMap sees your IP address. The “My location” button uses your device's GPS only to centre the map, in your browser: your location is never sent to our servers. Only the centre of the body of water you save is.
Notifications (iPhone app)
If you turn on notifications in the app, we keep your device's notification identifier, the app's language and the alerts you chose. Apple delivers the notifications to your phone. You can turn them off at any time, in your profile or in iOS settings; they are erased along with your account.
Retention and deletion
Your account is kept for as long as you use the service. You can delete it yourself at any time from your profile (“Delete my account”), or ask us at [email protected]. It is then erased, along with everything we know about you.
Your rights
Depending on the law where you live (for example PIPEDA in Canada or the GDPR in the European Union), you can ask to see your information, correct it or have it deleted. You can also withdraw your consent by no longer using the service and asking for your account to be deleted.
Contact
Person responsible for personal information: Tania Genzardi — [email protected]. If our answer does not satisfy you, you can contact the data protection authority of your country (in Canada: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada).
